How much of an impact does the supermarket have to a highstreet? I think a lot more than I originally thought. Here is a map.. the crudly drawn Blue X is where we are staying. this map shows the nearest tesco to us... the nearest supermarket is an hour away...In the town we are staying there is not a single empty shop. it's thriving with trade and business is booming, not only that but as someone who has been visiting this wonderful place since a child, the people who run these businesses are the the same families from my childhood. Many point the finger to online trade as the reason for the highstreet downfall... but does the supermarket play a bigger part then we realise? what do you think?#highstreet#smallbusiness#Independentshops

Service Complacency..If your self service is not aimed at delivering great and differentiated experience the initial gains will be shortlived and your competitors wil thank you. Example: I now actively put off going in to Woolworths Supermarkets or Coles Group supermarkets because the almost compulsory self service experience, and associated atmosphere, is so poor. I shop at Harris Farm Markets, it's faster and more pleasant. (I have no connection to Harris Farm). Driving spend to your competitors and allowing them to secure lifelong customers is the result of service complacency and will end in tears...#customerexperience #stoneism #servicetransformation #retailtransformation

The newspapers and coffee part of myWaitrose always felt like an attempt to have something distinct and predictable in place, to counterbalance a scheme that was and is confusing and disjointed. They were the simple clear headline disguising the muddled story underneath. But the economics never added up, and I’m not sure Waitrose planners anticipated quite how good British shoppers are at maximising a ‘free lunch’. Or coffee and the paper in this case. The slow death of these unsustainable headline treats then draws out the inevitable, while creating a disproportionate pit of annoyance and antagonism among loyal customers. Would Tesco or Sainsbury's run MyWaitrose this way? Of course not, the change would be definitive and clean. Clarity in exchange for a short-lived bit of grumbling. That’s the key flaw in myWaitrose, the overall scheme has never delivered clear easy to understand benefits, except for those that are being chipped away at here. Customers are canny and respond best when benefits are simple to understand, and easy to redeem. myWaitrose is neither. Tesco Sainsbury's #retail #loyaltyprogram #gimmertaxIMAGE: copilot. Spectacularly, this is what the AI came up with for Waitrose Loyalty Scheme.

Choice announces this years Shonky Awards and they call out our two major supermarket chains.Choice nomination of Coles and Woolworths is for what they intimate is execessive profits at a time when the average Australian is facing a "cost of living crisis".We do live in interesting times. It was only last week that Woolworths were rated by the Roy Morgan group as Australias most trusted brand with Coles also sitting high in the rankings. In recent times the amount of angst by parts of our community about everything from the conversion of Woolies supermarkets to Metro to self serve checkouts underscores some of the challenges faced by two majors in protecting their "trust" position. With cost of living pressures forecast to continue, both the majot chains will have to continue to be vigilant in the management of their brand reputation#ChoiceShonkies #supermarkets #costoflivingpressures #brand #reputation #proactivemaintenance

Bet “long” on Covid behaviours at your peril. With hindsight, Ocado now realise that the spike in online grocery delivery wasn’t an acceleration of structural change, but a short term reaction to the pandemic. The same probably rings true for offices as FOMO sees more people trekking in. The useful thing about Covid is that it has accelerated a direction of travel. Some office locations were always going to become redundant whilst vibrant CBDs were always going to get stronger. For retail, it’s more nuanced and grocers are trying to find the balance between what their consumer wants and what they can afford to deliver in a very low margin business. Ocado may be able to help with technology that makes delivery more profitable, but it’s going to take time, a lot of time. #retail #grocery #ocado #onlineshopping #logistics #ynwa
