The scents of barbeques and fireworks are wafting over the city all weekend long as we ride out this summer heatwave. Make the most of your holiday weekend by saving room for more cheeseburgers at LAist's Tournament of Cheeseburgers, wind your way to the beach (the ocean is almost not freezing finally), or catch one of the all-time best summer movies, Top Gun, on the roof at the Westfield in Sherman Oaks on Saturday night.
To really make being home feel like a staycation, get your festival gear on for Brunch Electronik, find the hottest (err, coolest?) new ice cream fix-up in Malibu, or check out the L.A. Sparks game (bonus for the excellent a/c) at Crypto.com Arena.
For more to explore, visit LAist.com, where you can get a sneak peek at the Endeavour’s new home, find out how to book a sleepover in one of L.A. County’s parks, or discover the best place to see a movie in every L.A. neighborhood this summer.

If you’ve been bitten by the women’s basketball bug (and after all the Caitlin Clark draft buzz earlier this year, who hasn’t?), an L.A. Sparks game might be the most fun you can have at a sports event for less than $20. Beat the heat and head downtown to see the Sparks take on Britney Griner (before she heads off to the Olympics in Paris) and the Phoenix Mercury.

It’s hard to believe Lana Del Rey’s third dreamy pop record, Ultraviolence, came out ten years ago, but here we are, with the El Cid tribute night to prove it. Take a break from this cruel world and enter Lana Del Rey’s by getting your groove on to songs like "Brooklyn Baby," "Shades of Cool," and other mid-2010s pop hits, plus some unreleased tracks, too. Expect drag performances, custom co*cktails, and more to enhance the vibe.
