How do I become a confident ice skater? ›

Encourage the athlete to get in the habit of identifying one good or positive thing they do each day. Keep a log of successes. SET MEASURABLE, CHALLENGING, BUT ACHIEVABLE GOALS. By setting goals, achieving them, set- ting new goals, achieving them and so on, the athletes prove their ability to themselves.

Remind yourself of how ready you are and why you love to skate. Remain concentrated on your own performance. You can't control how other skaters perform, only yourself. Take one element at a time, and focus on each skill, not the whole program.

A key tip for any beginner is to try and look up and forward when you skate rather than down at your blades. As well as helping you to stay balanced, keeping your eyes up and looking ahead will stop you from crashing into anyone and ensure you're aware of your surroundings if you fall.

Generally, an adult learner will take 8-10 weeks to learn the basics of ice skating. Kids pick up the skill a bit quicker, usually between 4-8 weeks. Adults may also have more difficulty learning to skate due to a lack of practice.

It is important to understand that skating competitions can be both lucrative and financially rewarding for top-tier skaters who invest significant time and effort into honing their skills and building a strong reputation in the skating community.
